History

The Government College, Ambalapuzha  was established in August 2010, by the Govt of Kerala. It is managed by the  Department of Collegiate Education, Government of Kerala. The College is affiliated to the University of Kerala.

The Govt College, Ambalapuzha inaugurated on September 12, 2010 by the then Honourable Chief Minister of Kerala Sri V S Achuthanadan. It  is the fulfillment of the  long cherished dream of the people  who left no stone unturned  for its realization.  Yet, it was by the last ditch effort of the former Minister of Kerala and Ambalapuzha MLA  Sri G Sudhakaran the  long standing clamour for the college became a reality. The college owes it overwhelming gratitude to him and the people. The New College building was completed fast and inaugurated on September 30, 2015 by the Chief Minister of Kerala Sri Oommen Chandy.

Ambalapuzha has given birth to many illustrious human beings who created a niche for themselves and served the country and people. Yet, the backwardness of the  region that includes Kuttanadu and coastal locale necessitated a centre  for higher learning-  A government institution in higher education where education  is affordable to the children of the poor and the needy  would be  the panacea for all their maladies.  This beacon of hope will definitely blaze the path and brighten up new horizons for the new generation.

The college started with three UG courses began to offer two PG courses (one in Commerce and the other one in English Literature) since 2010-19.
