Department of Commerce, Government College Ambalappuzha has started from the year 2010. At the beginning, the department offered only B Com Computer Application with an intake of 25 students. From the inception year onwards, the Department earmarked its success by achieving academic results above University average and is maintaining it till now. In 2018 the Government of Kerala has given sanction to start M.Com course by considering the academic achievements of the Department.
Every year the Department conducts class PTA meeting and suggestions from the Parents sought out are positively viewed and implemented. The Department also collects Bio-data of every Ist semester B.Com and M. Com students and they are properly filed. Staff meeting of the Department is conducted at frequent intervals. The grievances, suggestions and feedback of the teachers are properly addressed. After publishing the semester results, the Department conducts analysis of marks and overall performance of students. The best performing students are offered cash awards by the department Head. Before the University examination, the Department conducts model examinations and analyse the results. Through this process weak students are identified and remedial coaching is given on off days and by arranging morning and evening classes before and after the usual working hours.
The Department offers textbooks to students at subsidized rates and provides well-known Author’s books for reference. In every year the Department frame a SWOT analysis and remedial measures are taken for overcoming the hardships. Our passed out students are placed at dignified posts in Government, Semi-Government and Public undertakings. It is worthwhile to mention that the first batch M.Com students, even though they got admission in the last session, has secured cent percent result with first class.
